Anne Fung (Luke) Ko was born in Seattle on April 18, 1924 to Ah Suey Luke and Chin See Luke. Growing up she worked in the family laundry business. In 1943 she graduated from Broadway High School and received a certificate in business from Broadway Community College in 1944. She married Richard L. Ko in November 3, 1946.
They had four children, Alvin, Myron, Patricia, and Richard. In 1961 after Richard left the family, Anne was able to raise her children with perseverance, determination and with the support of family and friends. To support her family she started working fulltime for US West Phone Company as a data processing clerk. Through hard work, she earned several promotions which increased her responsibilities within the company. In 1977, Richard returned and they were remarried. She retired from the phone company on December 31, 1983, but she continued to work part-time at various business.
Anne had many hobbies. She enjoyed outdoor activities such as camping and fishing. The family camped at Moses Lake and other state and national campgrounds. She had a vegetable garden to help the family and shared the bounty with other family members and friends. She enjoyed growing flowers and caring for her fruit trees. She was a wonderful cook and showed love to the family by making sure everyone had enough to eat. She showed her love not only through food, but through her crocheting and knitting. Each of her children was kept warm with crocheted afghans and hand-knitted sweaters.
After retiring Anne and Richard travelled extensively with family and friends to Hong Kong, China, Europe, and around the United States. When Richard fell ill, she remained at home to care for him. After his death, she resumed her love of travelling with family and friends.
Anne was baptized in 1968 and became a member of Chinese Baptist Church. She served in several positions such as accounting, fellowship, hospitality and social concerns. She participated in many fellowship groups such as Bless Ewe and Eagles. The church was an important part of her life.
Anne was also active in community groups. She was a Cub Scout den mother, a chaperone for Chinese Girls’ Drill Team, a member of Jade Guild, a PTA parent in her children’s schools, and a volunteer at Kin On.
