Alan Harold Cohen

Alan was preceded in death by Aaron “Ronnie” Cohen and Rachel Cohen. He is survived by his beloved wife Carlene of 53 years, his daughter, Ashley Slater and son-in law Neil, his son Aaron Cohen and daughter-in-law Courtney. Alan’s legacy also includes his four beautiful grandchildren Adam, Benjamin, Avery, and Sienna. Alan is also survived by his loving brother Steven Cohen, who was a selfless caregiver to the end.

A lifelong Seattle resident, Alan graduated from Franklin High School and the University of Washington. He was a member of the University of Washington Oval Club with a purpose to promote student unity and cooperation, develop leaders and preserve the University’s traditions.

Alan was a successful business owner. In partnership with his brother Steve, he managed the C&H Importing Company co-founded by his father in 1947.

Alan’s highest priority was his family, he was an ever-present fixture in his children’s lives. You would find him on the pool deck with a box of donuts after a morning swim practice, driving carloads of kids to and from parties and Friday night football games, telling jokes, and teaching life lessons. He was an involved dad.

Alan knew everyone, and everyone knew him. He had a magnetic personality and people wanted to be in his orbit. His second home was a local coffee shop surrounded by friends with a bagel and a refillable cup of coffee. Not a day went by when he wasn’t off to the Mercer Island Tully’s first thing to meet with his devoted coffee group. Everyone wanted a seat at Alan’s table.

There are so many memories and not enough space. His enthusiasm for life, generous nature and amazing sense of humor will be deeply missed by his loving family and friends. Services will be held to honor his life at the Butterworth Funeral Home, 520 W Raye Street, Seattle WA on Wednesday, December 4 at 11am.
