SEASIDE - Velma Ann Evans died on Friday, May 2, 2014 after an extended battle with breast cancer. Born in Texas, Velma moved to the Monterey Peninsula at an early age. She graduated from Monterey High School in 1956. She worked as a teacher’s aide at various schools on the Peninsula and a customer service representative at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula and a local car dealership. Velma lived in Seaside; growing flowers was her passion. She touched and inspired many.
Velma is survived by her husband of 57 years, Robert Evans of Seaside, seven children; Tim Evans and Rhonda Mercadal Espinosa of Salinas, Mark, Craig, Dale and Chris Evans of Seaside and Lynn Johnson of Monterey. Also, she is survived by 20 grandchildren and sisters, Bernice Crowe, Barbara Ashley, and brother Frank Niblett.
Visitations will be held Monday from 4:00 pm-8:00 pm at Bayside Community Mortuary, 1610 Noche Buena Street, Seaside. Funeral service will be held 11:00 am, Tuesday, at the Carpenter House 1309 Broadway Avenue, Seaside followed by graveside services at Cementerio el Encinal in Monterey. Flowers may be sent to Bayside Community Mortuary.
