Robert Evans 1933-2024
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Robert Evans, who peacefully left us on November 16, 2024, at the age of 91. He was a man of quiet strength, whose presence in our lives was marked by love, humility, sense of humor, and a deep devotion to his family.
Born in Athens, Georgia, to Nellie Wheeler and Lee Evans, Mr. Evans led a life grounded in simplicity, wit, and grace. He was a man of few words, but his actions spoke volumes. He was a steady, dependable figure to all who knew him, offering a helping hand and kindness without expectation. His love for his family was immeasurable, and he found great joy in home repair projects, puzzles, listening to 70s R&B and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Mr. Evans joined the U.S. Army at the age of 17 and served 21 years with tours of duty in Vietnam, Korea, Germany, and Alaska. After retiring from the military, he worked for Firestone Tire Company in Salinas followed by Civil Service on the former Fort Ord army base.
In his later years, Mr. Evans became less able to express himself, but his love for his family never waned. His children and grandchildren will fondly remember him as a gentle and patient presence in their lives who loved to play blackjack, Connect 4 and watch Gunsmoke. Whether it was cooking his famous pancake breakfast for his grandchildren, or watching them play, or shuttling them to and from school or simply being there, his warmth and affection left an indelible mark on their hearts.
Mr. Evans was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion to his family. He is preceded in death by Velma Evans, his wife of 57 years. He is survived by his seven children: Timothy Evans; Rhonda Mercadal Evans; Marcus Evans; Craig Evans; Dale Evans; Chris Evans; Lynn Johnson; 13 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
