We send all our Love & Gratitude for the many wonder-full Christmas times we had at the Ranch and Carmel ~ Your Home, the fireplace & your always Beautiful Christmas Tree, thoughtful gifts, delicious food, great wine and champagne, all made for times & memories to be cherished by those of us fortunate enough to share your Christmas seasons, Lives & Love all those years ~

PS:  We KNOW you are both with each one of your Family members this Christ-Mas season, where ever we may be, and can feel your Love & happy anticipation of the New Year & New Times ahead in 2025!!

George & Jewel DuBois ~ Mom & Dad...an inspiration to all who knew & loved them, as a couple and as individuals.  70 years of marriage & love, mostly happiness & joy, laughter & tears, many good times & some bad, not much sickness & lots of health, 4 kids & more cats, overall, a very happy life & partnership until death did them part in February 2016.   May God continue to Bless them both, ForEver.

Dad was a Member of Monterey Peninsula Country Club for 30 years, played golf every Tuesday, Thursday & Saturday; had 2 Hole-In-One shots on each course, was the 2nd Legend of MPCC, and one of the nicest Gentleman golfers ever.  His signature 'plantation white hat', incredible putting accuracy, quiet & polite demeanor are sorely missed by all.

2016 - We had these plaques specially made for the Bluebird Cottage at the Lamplighter Inn where 5 of Mom's paintings are on permanent display.  Dad helped install these signs & walked by them every day on the way to get the mail at the Post Office, until January 29, 2019 ~ it was always bittersweet to think of her artwork in their favorite 'hotel room'.

Mom didn't ever think she would win an Award for her Artwork, but we Did!!  Bittersweet times in early 2016.

Dearest Dad & Mom ~ 

I’m two days late in wishing you a Happy 79th Anniversary, but on October 11th, 2024 I thought of you both so often & smiled at the thoughts of what you were doing October 11, 1945.   

Mom, you were only 2 months away from your 19th birthday, 5 days earlier your precious Mom went to Heaven, and stunned but happy to marry Bill DuBois.  Dad, you were just a month past 21 & so in love with Judy Dwight, you took Leave as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army to marry her, even if it meant being apart for a while, you’d be together in the hopes & dreams you shared that Day. 

A small ceremony in Bakersfield, California started an incredible marriage of 70 years, with only death parting you in February 2016.  You “started from scratch”,  living the American Dream of building a highly productive farm, designing & building your own home by hand, buying a Cessna & traveling around the USA together, raising 4 children who became successful in their lives & marriages, all the while, inspiring & helping many others along the Way. 

When it came time to retire, in 1984, you moved to Carmel by the Sea, where you had Honeymooned in October 1945 & began your 2nd Honeymoon.  What a time you had for the next 32 years!  Dad, you ‘learned to play Golf’ at 60, constantly encouraging Mom to paint while you were with The Guys at MPCC.  Mom, thankfully when you ‘started painting’ in 1994, your talent, spiritual Love & Joy became beautiful water color paintings.  You were both examples of individual & shared journeys that made everyone & everything better for your existence, marriage & loving partnership.  

During the 64 years you lived in only 2 Homes, your Friends & Family shared Times of laughter, lessons & Love on Birthdays, Holidays, Anniversaries & every Day any of us were together with you two.  We are all so Thank-Full for the memories & especially for the honor of sharing your Life together & individually.

Happy 100th Dad!!  Today, August 20, 2024 is a Day I'll always remember because of the special person you were while here on Earth.  You were a Gentleman, Father & Dad all wrapped into One.

I've been reminiscing & looking through the big wooden trunk of yours & Mom's full of memories & photos of you two.  What an admirable & uniquely successful Life you lived with your 'Little Judy' by your side for 70 wonderful years.  You lived your life by the Golden Rule, were Humble & Kind, Honest to a fault & lead by Example for 94 1/2 years. There was a constant Theme in your Life:  Decide what to do, DO It Well, then pass on what you learned to help others benefit from your knowledge & experience.  
 
You were quite the Man and I'm so proud & ThankFull to have had the honor of being your oldest Daughter this time around.  I've learned so much from you & I hope you are proud of all I and your other children and Friends along the Way have accomplished & become, because of you. 

I'm sure there's a big party going on for you tonight in Heaven & I sure hope you got a chance to play a Round of Golf with God today!!  I have so much to say & congratulate you for on this Special Day ~ your accomplishments were so Many!!

October 11, 2023 ~ Happy 78th Anniversary Dad & Mom!! 

With Thank-Full hearts we celebrate a ‘blind date’ to the Sierra Dance that Bill DuBois & Judy Dwight had back in 1944 ~ a night that sparked a combining of two lives into One.   Thank you both for being such Wonder-Full examples ‘of "How Marriage should Be" ~ you lived your vows & demonstrated how to weather “the good times & bad, the poorer & richer chapters, even through health & sickness” ~ you followed an adventurous path & were always growing, together, all the while.

Today, we send you All our Love & gratitude for loving each other so much that you brought 4 souls into your lives, hearts & legacy.   You’re a “hard act to follow”, but we’re all doing our best to follow in your path of unconditional love, respect & companionship, and enjoying our own journeys & spouses.

I'm a day late, but Wishing you what would have been your 99th Birth-Day, on  August 20, 2023.   

We're thinking of you with Love & Gratitude for being such a caring Dad & strong human being ~ you weren't always the easiest person to live with, but you sure were the most honorable, consistent, and gentle-man beneath that firm armor of self-protection & Fatherly-Love.  

Mom always hoped you would live long enough for us to know you as she did ~ Scott & I are Thank-Full we had that unique opportunity during the last years of your Life.  

Your MPCC Golfing buddies & Paul Bystrowski and Lesa, remember you with fondness & admiration, and send their Happy 99th Birthday wishes along too!!  They're on a special MPCC Members golf trip and at the St. Andrews Old Course now ~ Paul wishes you were playing along with him, and,  maybe you are!!!   Paul & Lesa are reliving the time you & Mom walked into a dining room at St.Andrews, overlooking the Old Course & had lunch ~ even before you knew how to play golf!!  How far you progressed from there, ultimately becoming the much admired 2nd Legend of Monterey Penninsula Country Club.   
We hope you Enjoy a great Round at the Old Course & have a very Happy 99th!!!

Happy Veteran's Day 2022, Dad!!! We're so proud of you & all you did in WWII ~ Thanks be to God that Terry Baker suggested I contact Paul Loeffler, the host of HomeTown Hero's, a 'talk show' based on interviews with Veteran's to memorialize their experiences for future generations to understand what Wars the US fought on foreign soils, were all about.  
It was a wonderful experience to watch you tell him all about your WWII memories of your paratrooper experiences, with Mom by your side, in your lovely living room in Carmel by the Sea.  Your interview was Home Town Heros #330, that aired on August 22, 2014.

Thinking of you on your 77th Anniversary yesterday, October 11, 2022.  You were such a happy & inspirational couple, Soul-mates & friends along the Way. Scott & I send Texas-sized Hugs & Love to you on this Father's Day, 2022 ~ it's the 4th one without you... You're still in our hearts & always on our minds ~ we thank you for the little 'signs' you send to let us know when you're around  :  ) 

We played golf at LadyBird Johnson golf course here in Fredericksburg this morning & I turned to look at a bench on the 15th tee box that I'd never noticed before...I do believe you were sitting on that bench watching us...brought tears to my eyes, then I heard you say:  "Remember Deb, Golf is not a game of Perfect.  Just play it your way & have fun".   I parred the hole & broke 100, again!! Thank you  :  )  Thank you again for all the rounds & putting lessons with you at MPCC...you're right:  it IS more fun when you play well.

Thank you most of all for being such a Great Dad ~ I am ForEver grateful to you & Mom for your love, wisdom, patience & high standards that have gotten me (& all your children) over some pretty incredible 'rocks in the Stream' of Life.   Now, if you'll just help me understand how to 'relax & enjoy retirement' that would be a welcomed bunch of advice  :  )

We were in Florida on January 29, 2022 ~ your 3rd Angel BirthDay...the photo I took in  Destin Beach, Florida is one that was beyond belief symbolic:  "From Sea to Shining Sea" was one of your favorite sayings while looking out on the Pacific Ocean "shining sea" from the Monterey Peninsula Country Club golf course, the Sea Gull became your personal 'Angel' symbol and  the couple sitting on the white sand beach reminded me of you & Mom spending glorious times in Heaven's loving light.  
Thank you again for all you were in Life, the lessons of living & achievement you taught me/us through word & deed, the advice & counsel you gave Scott & me along the way, and the incredible legacy of love, honor & pride you left us.    You are missed by many & most of all, by Scott & me.   With Love in our hearts we wish you the Happiest Angel Day, Dad...Hope you & Mom are enjoying every  moment & every sunset   :  )   Deb & Scott

What a wonder-full Life Together you had!!  You both were role-models for all who knew you as husband & wife, best Friends, Life Partners & the Greatest Dad & Mom ever!!  So many amazing memories you made together, two very well-lived & enjoyed Lives.

Thank you both, again, for all you were & all you did, for all your Love & all your Wisdom, and especially for being the incredible parents you were to all of us~

Dearest Dad ~ 
Thinking of you today & wishing you a Happy 97th BirthDay!!  My oh my what a lot has taken place this past year:  the people who bought & renovated your Camino Real home sold it in January,  in April we took a trip to Texas & loved the Hill Country so much that we bought 5 acres & plan to build a home, so sold 188 Del Mesa Carmel in June!!  In July I turned 73 & while moving to Fredericksburg, Texas, Pam let us know her dear Pete joined you & Mom in Heaven on the 23rd - devastating for all of us, especially Pam.   August has been a month of new & emotional changes;  I'm happy to be in Texas but so sad for Pam going on without Pete.  It made our 43rd Anniversary even more poignant.
We sure do love you and Mom so much & are so grateful for this day in 1924!!  What an amazing Life you Lived!  Remembering your 94th & last Birthday with Pam & Pete, Scott & me at MPCC (photo enclosed) ~ you are still missed, admired & loved by so many...Happy BirthDay Dad  :  )    All our Love ~ Debbie & Scott

Dearest Dad ~ 
Hope you are 'doing well' and having joyful times with your 'little Judy', playing some terrific rounds of golf up There, enjoying the sunrises, sunsets & endless stars together, or with your friends  :  )

It's been a crazy world the last 2 years;  so many times we've wished you & Mom were here to help us understand and 'talk us through' all that's happened.  But again, oh so thankful that you weren't ~ I don't think either of you would like wearing these masks, or not being able to go to Mission Ranch, Portabella or even the Country Club when you wanted...hopefully 'this too shall pass' and the Light of freedom will shine once again? 

Well, tonight, in your honor, Scott's cooking your favorite: salmon & broccoli for dinner and, we'll raise a glass or two of Black Label in a thankful toast to both you & Mom.  You did such a great job of being parents and role models for so many – you are remembered with gratitude & thanks for the hard work, inspiring guidelines & magical memories you shared with all of us!

I'm on my way to the Quail driving range to hit some balls, and fondly remembering the countless hours spent on MPCC Point Joe Driving Range, with you.  I give thanks for being able to spend those moments with you improving my golf swing & putting techniques…you were so patient!!  Hopefully next time Scott & I play golf, maybe, just maybe, I'll break 100 ~ I'm getting closer each time!!  I still hear you say: "Deb, Golf isn't a game of Perfect"; no truer or more 'comforting' words were ever spoken!! 

I love & miss you and Mom so much, but am sure glad you are together again ~ that thought makes my (all of our) heart sing  :  )

Remembering the days when you & Langdon flew the Cessna to Canada for some private lake fishing ~ You guys did well & had lots of fun competing with the Eagles & Bears for possession of your catch!!  Scott really enjoyed his trips  with you too & is forever grateful for the experience.

Scott & I are thinking of you fondly & remembering all the BirthDays gone by that were celebrated with champagne & fillet mignon at MPCC, Mission Ranch or at home in Carmel, or on the Ranch, with lots of family or just a few of us.  Those were the Days!!  

We sure do miss you Dad, but you & Mom live on in our hearts every Day…and we wish you both the Happiest & Best of Times, and the Best of everything, because you surely earned & deserve it all!!

Dearest Dad: 

2019 was a difficult year in many ways, but somehow this old world keeps turning around & it's January 29, 2020; a year now since you became an Angel & joined Mom in Heaven… hopefully you & your ‘little Judy’ are holding hands, full of Joy & Happiness, dancing to Big Band music, enjoying your endless love in the Rainbows & starry skies, reunited with your many friends & family who were just waiting for you to arrive.

Although some may not understand your pain during the past 3.5 years since Mom left your side to be with God, Scott & I truly did & do; we admire the courage it took to ‘go try to find Judy’...You & Mom were soul-mates who shared an unconditional love & understanding of & for each other that is rarely seen here on Earth. 

Your ‘regular guys’ & friends at MPCC still miss playing golf with you, and by now hopefully you’ve caught up with Jack Fisher, the other Legend of MPCC…amazing that you’d both be gone in 2019.  Many thanks for the honor of playing your last round of golf with Scott & me at MPCC’s Shore course on Sunday January 27, 2019 – I truly didn’t believe it when you said ‘this is my last round of golf’.  I miss playing with you, Dad: remembering times at the Point Joe driving range & the putting contests you’d always win, your patience & gentle tips each Round we played…I’ve kept your putter (the favorite club in my Bag) & it IS truly magical!!  I miss hearing you say:  ‘Deb, remember: Golf isn't a game of perfect’, & it’s hard to believe we won’t be seeing you or your white golfing hat ever again.

Reflecting back on all you were & did, you were/are a precious soul, an understanding & patient but strict Father, a good & loyal Friend, a forgiving & gentle-man of strong principles.  Thank you for providing for us in so many ways during your lifetime & for being there now, when we need your strength, guidance & wisdom the most & I've often noticed the Seagull nearby!!

I’ll always remember when you took Anthony IV golfing at MPCC. You said he was a natural. Also, you watching grandma and Genevra painting together and doing “art lessons”. Or the many laughs, cheers, food and farm talk over so many years w my husband. Or your laugh when watching the kids. Or when you would look at Genevra, with her big round crystal blue eyes just like Granmas, you would get lost in thought and she would hold your hand. I would always get so worried Anthony’s running around would make you nervous but you loved it! I tried to wash the windows and grandma told me no because she wanted to look at their handprints on the windows! They loved to look at all the kitties coming to visit. You loved Anthony taking his rubber band wooden gun and shooting at the loud crows early in the morning. You loved his all boy spirit. I  miss you telling me how beautiful I was and that I was a wonderful mother. Thank you.

Here we are, on my 71st BirthDay, July 6, 2019, wishing we were blowing out candles with you & Mom present in person, but know you're here in spirit.   You are missed terribly & every day we (Scott & I) think back on the days we all shared:  saying good-bye to you as you either went out to play golf with your friends at MPCC, or took the drive to the Coast along 17 Mile Drive to read your books & talk to the 'Regulars' as they passed by on their walks along the Beach.

You did one heck of a job getting everything ready  for your 'exit' & the trails you left for me have been amazing ~ thank you so much for the details & making the 'journey of settling the Estate' as easy as it could possibly be.  The unknown factor was the Family & that no one could have foretold ~ gee, what we learn about people when the money is there, or not anymore...

We've missed you these last 5 months & are trying to do the best we can to settle your Estate with the least amount of interference from the Lawyers, like you asked me to do, so many times.  But, it's not easy in some cases, as you may know by now?  But we'll get through this & the Family will keep 'on rolling along the bumpy road until we reach the Rainbow' that you & Mom are sitting on...

Scott & I send you our love & respect and hope you did find Mom (Judy) and that you both are dancing to the Glenn Miller Band & all the other wonder-full Big Band music you loved so well.  

Thank you again, Dad, for bringing me into this Earth & for raising me to be the success-full person I am today ~ without you,my life would not have been possible nor would I have known how amazing a person like you could be & how much you could bring to this Earth in intelligence, gentleness, respect for all living things, living the Golden Rule, & being a role model for so many of us. 

You're a tough act to follow, but we're all trying our Best ~

Like my father, George was trained as a paratrooper during WWll. I remember how my father, who opened up to very few people about his war experiences, opened up to George. As I think of the camaraderie and inspiration that acquaintance with George brought my father, I feel my heart break open with gratitude. I am also thankful, as well as humbled, to have witnessed to the love George and Jewel had for one another. "Love at first sight is easy to understand; it's when two people have been looking at each other for a lifetime that it becomes a miracle." This quote is attributed to the famed American humorist and journalist Sam Levenson, and it is perfectly true. I saw that kind of miracle in the light that George and Jewel brought to each others eyes. That light was as radiant in their seventieth year of knowing one another as it was when I first met them three and half decades ago, and as I have no doubt it was that first night they danced together in the war years. If loving devotion were a skill, they could have taught graduate seminars. But I think loving devotion is a miracle because it is a choice made for the health and strength of the heart of one's beloved, and it builds in those qualities like a muscle that is worked by each choice, hour by hour, day by day, and year by year. George's love of  the earth and growing things was instrumental in transforming California's arid central valley into orchards. George designed with love and built  by hand the house that he and Jewel raised their family in. In time, George's love for flying gave them and their family new vistas to explore and new places to love. Vincent Van Gogh said, "It is good to love many things, for therein lies the true strength, and whosoever loves much, performs much, and can accomplish much, and what is done in love is well done."  Beautifully well done. Thank you, George.
