Born April 29, 1928 in Jordan, MT, he and his family moved to the Monterey Peninsula in the early 1930’s in search of greener pastures. The third youngest of seven siblings, the harsh times of the day propelled him out into the world on his own at a young age. Equipped with just his sense of adventure and his love of horses, he made his way deep into the Carmel Valley where he honed his skills as a journeyman horse trainer in such communities as Jamesburg and Cachagua.
He then furthered his knowledge at prominent California ranches such as Rancho San Carlos, The Church Ranch and The Santa Barbara Islands to name just afew. Upon graduation from the “School of Hard Knocks” he secured the job as Ranch Manager for the La Canada Ranch in Gilroy where he retained that position for over 25 years. From the wide-eyed wrangler to respected cattleman, the only thing more impressive was his love of life, family and friends.
Allen is survived by his daughter, Allene Perry of Del Rey Oaks, Montie Hutton (Maggy) of Apple Valley, grandson Nick Perry, granddaughter Courtney Hutton, sister Dorothy Stoudt of Salinas, brother Bill Hutton of Nevada, former wife Jackie, and several nieces & nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff at Pacific Coast Care Center and his caregivers, Barbara & Helene for all their loving care and support.
