Vanitia attended two years of secretarial school and worked on the base while Johnnie was overseas doing tours of duty in Korea and Vietnam.
In May of 1972 Johnnie retired and he and the family moved to Dallas where they started the John Cook and Associates Heating and Air Conditioning Company. Johnnie ran the business and Vanitia worked for the Seagoville Federal Credit Union. Eleven years later she joined the business full-time and did all the accounting work until 2005, when she retired.
Vanitia loved the Lord. She and Johnnie joined Central Baptist Church of Crandall in 1997. Vanitia loved to cook, sew, visit with family, travel, and go to Gaither concerts.
