Steven was raised in Mesquite, Texas and graduated from North Mesquite High School alongside his twin sister, Stephanie. As a child, he was known for laughing a lot, and his presence always brought a smile to those around him. That quality remained true throughout the entirety of his life. Steven was an Electrician by trade. He worked often with his father, who taught him the family business. In his spare time, Steven loved to read. His favorite books were the Harry Potter series, and he would describe the characters as “old friends I’ve missed for a while.”
He loved dreaming, writing, and laughing. He kept detailed journals where he expressed himself beautifully, writing poems, songs, and summaries of his days. In these journals he listed out his love for his family members by name, and he especially wrote about his love for his mother and father. Steven also expressed in his writings his desires for the fullest of lives. He wrote of his trust in God and prayed when he needed Him. In these same pages he also expressed his love for Britney Spears and gems that he collected. That was Steven: A writer, a thinker, a faithful and loving son and brother with an incredible sense of humor.
He loved being with family and kept momentos of big and small moments that he treasured such as, expired driver’s licenses of his siblings to have their photo always with him. His family and friends will always remember him as a carefree and joyful person who will forever be missed.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents Lidia Barbosa and Guillermo Barbosa, Cresencio P. Valdez, Maria Lopez Valdez, uncles Elias Lopez Garcia, and Daniel Valdez. He is survived by his father Cresencio Valdez Jr. and stepmother Felicha Garza, mother Norma Morales and stepfather Joel Morales, his twin sister Stephanie Castañon, siblings Denise Aguilar, Sean Garza, Denise Morales, Jessica Morales, Brianna Valdez, Nicholas Morales, and his 9 nieces and nephews.
