Rose was born October 9, 1951 in Rapides Parish, Louisiana to parents Lawrence and Helen Sumbler. She would go on to graduate from Southeast Rapides High School in Glendora, LA. Rose was determined to further her education after high school, studying for her Bachelors of Science from Southern University in Baton Rouge, graduating in August of 1973.
While obtaining her degree, Rose’s sister Dessie would introduce her to a young Mr. Joe Clark. The two would hit it off and eventually marry on November 14, 1970. Joe and Rose would have their oldest son in Louisiana before moving the family to Texas in pursuit of greater opportunities.
Rose began working at Presbyterian hospital in Dallas, Texas while completing her Cytotechnology certification. This would be the start of a nearly 50 year long career as a Cytotechnologist, working in several different labs until she was urged to retire.
Rose Marie was always a giver. She enjoyed knitting, cooking, and spending time with her family, especially her grandbabies. She always had a close relationship with the lord and made sure to instill that in her children as well.
Left to cherish in her memory are her husband, Joe Clark; children, Joe Clark and wife LaTasha, Shaundra Scurlark and partner Charles Cooks, Joshua Clark and wife Davina; grandchildren, Dazha Clark, O’Shaurya Silmon, Jada Clark, Aiyana Clark, Joshua Clark, Kaylee Scurlark, Sanai Baskin, Summer Clark, Austin Clark, Daijah Baker, Tatiyana Jones, and Kendall Scurlark, along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and loving friends.
Greeting her at the gates of heaven were her parents, Lawrence and Helen Sumbler; sister, Dessie Harrington, brother, Oscar Sumbler Sr; Nephews, Jeffery Sumbler and Oscar Sumbler Jr; her brother-in-law, Leslie Harrington Sr, and her sister-in-law, Gloria Sumbler.
A wake will be held for Mrs. Clark on Monday, October 21, 2024 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Roselawn Funeral Home. Her funeral service will follow on Tuesday, October 22, 2024 at 2pm in the funeral home. A short Committal service will occur in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens at 3pm with the family having a small repast back inside afterwards.
