Robert Lee York Born August 16th, 1929 in McKinney, Texas to Louie and Annie York. Robert is preceded in death by his parents; wife of 62 years, BJ York; son, Billy Wayne York; 3 brothers, Raymond, Junior and Bodie York and 2 sisters, Sis Beasley and Margie Robertson. Left to cherish memories are daughters Debra Ann Cork; Gwen Christian & husband Kirk; son Tommy Ray York; daughter in law Beverly York and grandchildren, James C. Ryder & wife Shayla; Tommy York Jr.; Kasey Loban & husband Ryan; Lindsay Orr & husband Josh; Chase York; Shawn Cork and great grandchildren Brooklyn & Phoenix Ryder; Corban Cork; Lainey & Wyatt Orr; Kade Loban and 2 brothers, JC and Ronnie York and a sister, Betty Jean Goodwin; several nieces, nephews and loved ones. Robert left school early to work and assist his parents. Although raised in Olney, Texas, he eventually left for Dallas to find work, where he met and married BJ Avrett in 1951. He worked for 44 years for the same company, Intercity Investments at the Terrace House, Maple Terrace and the Stoneleigh Hotel in Uptown Dallas. Robert was also an entrepreneur who bought, repaired, updated and sold many houses. Although he never finished his education, Robert was a very smart man. He was never a good reader, but he could memorize anything he needed to. He taught many of us valuable lessons, most important to support and rely on family. He looked forward to attending the annual York family reunions, visiting and laughing with loved ones. He also loved holidays, especially Christmas for the time with family and the opportunity to outdo the neighbors with new decorations every year. He would often lend a helping hand to friends and neighbors; he was one man you could always count on. He would mow his yards, his relative’s yards and also the neighbor’s yards at Cedar Creek Lake, where he and BJ lived for many years even before retirement. Robert loved country music, especially Hank Williams and George Jones. He always had a positive attitude and if you asked how he was doing, he would say he “felt just like a young mule”. He will be missed dearly. Family will receive friends from 1-2 PM on Wednesday November 12, 2014 and the Funeral Services will begin at 2 PM with Bro. Ed Brennan officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens where he will be laid to rest with his wife Billie Jo York.
