He is preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife, LaVerne Hilton Whitson, his parents and siblings Roy Whitson (Lucille), Era Whitson Kelm (Emil), Gladys Whitson Hill (Gene), Velma Whitson Medford, Jack Martin (Bootsie), John Martin, Bert Martin, Jiggs Martin (Lilly), Lillie May Martin Hunnicut, Claude Whitson (Wilma), Beth Whitson Campbell (Tommy) and Mattie Earl Whitson Squires.

Robert graduated from Achille High School and attended Oklahoma A&M for one year. He was employed by Coerver Industries, Whitson Industries and Campbell’s Cabinet Shop.
Robert was a member of of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church of Scurry, Texas as well as a member of the Crandall/Combine Lions Club.
Robert grew up in a large family of 13 children. Seven of the 13 children joined a branch of the United States Armed Forces. Robert was an Eagle Scout in his younger years. He faithfully and honorably served his country in the United States Air Force during WWII as a member of the “Hell’s Angels” 303 Bomb Squadron. He was an avid supporter of “Honor Flight”. An Honor Flight is conducted by non-profit organizations dedicated to transporting as many United States military veterans as possible to see the memorials of the respective war they fought in Washington, DC, at no cost to the veterans. Robert was also voted “Most Healthiest & Best Dressed Farm Boy” in the state of Oklahoma and took 2nd place in the National competition.
Roberts’s hobbies included fishing, cabinet making, gardening and playing dominoes. He especially liked 42 and 84.
A visitation for Robert will be held at Mt. Olive Baptist Church located at 8795 S. FM 148 Scurry, TX 75158 on Saturday, November 30, 2019 from 10:00am until 11:00am with the funeral following from 11:00am to 12:00pm. The burial will take place at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, located at 1000 S. Hwy 175 Seagoville, TX 75159 with a committal service following from 2:00pm until 2:30pm.
