Ray Maurice Benker was born January 30, 1948 in Dallas, Texas at Florence Nightingale Hospital to George and Oneida Benker. He passed away to his heavenly home on January 12, 2021 at the age of 72 after battling cancer for 14 years.
He attended Dallas’ South Oak Cliff and Crozier Tech High Schools.
He was drafted into the Army in 1966 and served his country honorably until 1968. He served as a quartermaster and was stationed at Ft. Campbell Kentucky in the 101st airborne division and then on to Kitzingen, Germany with the 1st Infantry Division.
After returning home, he married the love of his life, Mary Bailey, July 18, 1969 and had three daughters, four grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
He worked as a pressman and dye cutter for 34 years for Regency Thermographers, Balfour Publishing Company and IntegraColor.
He was a member of VFW Post 1837, serving as commander for two terms.
He is preceded in death by his parents, George Benker Sr. and Oneida Benker, brother Joseph Patrick Benker and great grandson Jase Ray Edwards.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mary Bailey Benker, Daughters Stacy Perkins (Rusty), Jennifer Payne Benker (Lori) and Elizabeth Hendrix (Paul). Grandchildren Jessica Edwards (Brandon), Jeremy Perkins (Taylor), Russell Perkins Jr and Rileigh Hendrix. Great grandchildren, Gracelynn Perkins, Emma Edwards, Cassidy Perkins, Gannon Perkins and Grayson Edwards. Sisters JoAnn Wells, Gailya Butler (Charles), Bessie Brown (Luke). Brothers George Benker Jr. (Kathy), David Benker (Sam) and numerous other family members and friends.
A visitation for Ray will be held Tuesday, January 19, 2021 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Christian Center of Mesquite, 4401 E Cartwright Rd., Mesquite, TX 75181. A funeral service will occur Tuesday, January 19, 2021 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, 4401 E Cartwright Rd., Mesquite, TX 75181. A committal service will occur Tuesday, January 19, 2021 from 2:00 PM to 2:30 PM at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, 1000 S Highway 175, Seagoville, TX 75159.
