Lewis Tansley Waites, affectionately known as “Tan” to many, was born on September 18, 1948, to the late Cilla Mae and Walter Waites in Jefferson, Texas. He transitioned to his heavenly home on April 13, 2024 at Medical City McKinney.
Lewis was born and raised in Smithland (Gethsemane), TX, where he graduated from Central High School in 1967 and married his High School sweetheart, the late Lee Ola Craver. A year later, he joined the United States Army as Private First Class and served his country in the Vietnam War. Lewis worked for General Motors and retired after twenty years of service.
Lewis adhered to the call of Salvation on his life and he, along with his second wife, Sharen Hatten Waites and family, joined All Nations Fellowship Church, under the leadership of his Pastor and friend, Sr. Pastor, Dr. Robert Canady, III, where he served as a faithful member until God called him home.
Lewis has blessed us with unforgettable memories of him, his love for his family, especially his grandchildren, and his lifelong love for the Dallas Cowboys. He also enjoyed his boat and could often be found, most weekends, fishing. Although he lived in Rowlett, he was fond of East Texas and visited frequently.
Lewis leaves to cherish his precious memories, three sons, Dexter L. Waites of Jefferson, Christopher A. Waites (Tira), of Mesquite, and Frederick L. Waites (Demetrese) of Baton Rouge. One daughter, Stephanie D. Waites (Stacy) of Garland. Two step-daughters: Sha Ron McCord (Jermaine) and ShaTavia Barrance of Dallas. Three brothers: Oree Waites, Terry Waites, and Donny Waites. Sixteen grandchildren: Elliot, Damien, Shelby, Aaleyah, Devarrius, Ty, Darian, Isis, Tray, Nyshawn, Makayla, Ean, Emory, Kearieon, Kimora, and Kaydence, and seven great-grandchildren. His best friend, Jody Shelton. A host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Preceded in death by his parents: Cilla Mae and Walter Waites and E.C. Cole. A brother; Walter Waites Jr.. A sister; Alice Tyson. A Daughter; Tiffany Waites. A niece; Tina Tyson. A Great-Grandson; Dallas Foote.
