John Ryer Born August 31, 1931 in Rylie, Texas and went home to meet the Lord on September 8, 2014 in Tyler, Texas at the age of 83. Preceded in death by his parents Richard and Augusta Ryer, brothers Richard Ryer, Joe Ryer, Jim Ryer and Alvin Ryer, sister Joyce Ryer-Barnes and son-in-law Randy Jones. Survived by wife of 61 years Shirley Ryer, 4 daughters Trudy Jones, Tracie Lindsey and husband Jim, Tina Gore and husband Stacy, Tonja Charba, and seven grandchildren, Cortney, Heather, Cari, James (J.J.), Melanie, Jennie and Seniya, and one great granddaughter, Riley. Survived by brothers, Ed Ryer and wife Betty, Pat Ryer and wife Peggy and sisters, Mary Rich and Shirley Wells and husband James, and extended family and friends, including church family at First Baptist Church of Canton, Texas. After employment with Electrotype Services for a number of years, John became a firefighter for The Garland Fire Department for 28 years and retired in 1993 as a Captain. He was a devout church member, served as a deacon since 1954 and taught Sunday School for many years. He spread God’s word at GoldStar Assisted Living. He was generous to all with his productive vegetable garden, offering fresh produce to all who attended Sunday evening services. He was active in sports, loved baseball, fishing, table games and bicycle riding. He loved the outdoors and was in his element riding his red tractor across his pasture. But his evenings were spent quietly reading God’s Word. He was a man of integrity and was respected by many and loved by all he came in contact with. Honorary Pallbearers are his Sunday School Class members of whom he has known for many years. Family will receive friends from 6-8 PM on Thursday September 11, 2014 at Roselawn. Home going Services will be 10 AM Friday September 12, 2014 at Roselawn Memorial Chapel with Dr. Mike Roberson and Bro. Don Childress officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in the Garden of Scriptures.
