Joe Ivory Jones

Joe Ivory Jones was born on July 26, 1938, in Monroe, LA to the union of Jessie and Lena Franklin Jones, who preceded him in death. Joe had nine sisters and one brother who preceded him in death: Betty Jean Swiney, Dorothy Mae Roberson, Jessie Mae Zeigler, Ethel Lee Davis, Pearlena Chess, Earlee Allen, Ollie Mae Young, Gladys Allen, Gloria Ann Jones, and Leonard Mitchell.

Joe has been united in matrimony with his wife Rosa Levanne Swanson-Jones for 56 years, and from that union, Joe and Rosa raised five wonderful children. Joe’s greatest passion was helping others and witnessing to others the wisdom and knowledge found in God’s word. Through his studies at the J. Lee Foster School of Biblical Studies, Joe became a stellar student and trusted instructor of God’s word as a Sunday School Teacher and as a First Friends new members ministry partner at First Baptist Church of Hamilton Park. Joe dedicated his time and resources to helping others and leading a godly life by example.

On April 13, 2024, Joe closed his eyes to sleep and woke up in heaven, as God called him home to be with Him. He leaves a legacy of sons and daughters: two sons, John King of San Jose, California, and Joseph Swanson and his wife Shante’ of Royse City, TX, and three daughters: Norma Inez Swanson-Mabry and her husband Homer of Lancaster, TX, Yvonne DeCarlo Swanson, and Sophia Lynn Young, both of Dallas, TX to cherish his precious memories: two brothers: Alfred Jones and his wife Rita and Willie Jones. He leaves thirteen grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and many family members and friends.

A visitation for Joe will be held Thursday, April 18, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Roselawn Funeral Home, 1000 S Highway 175, Seagoville, TX 75159. A funeral service will occur Friday, April 19, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at First Baptist Church of Hamilton Park, 300 E Phillips St, Richardson, TX 75081. A committal service will occur Monday, April 22, 2024 from 12:00 PM to 12:30 PM at Mt Pleasant Cemetery, 585 Mt Pleasant Rd, West Monroe, LA 71292.
