Jean Kirk

Jean Kirk passed away on January 25, 2023 in Hawkins, TX at the age of 80. Known as “Mimi” by family and friends, she will be remembered for her devotion to her husband of 61 years, JH, and love for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Jean was born on December 3,1942 in West Mines, Bell Island, Newfoundland, Canada to Harvey and Margaret Yetman. Jean was one of 12 children. She was preceded in death by brothers Wallace, William, Harvey Jr., Harold and Donald and sisters Mary, Evelyn and Dorothy. She is survived by her siblings Rosalind, Marie and Gerald.

Jean and JH met while he was in the United States Air Force stationed in St. John’s Newfoundland. They were married in March of 1961 and had three children – James, David and Kimberly. They resided in Houston, TX before moving to Balch Springs for a number of years, finally settling in Crandall in 1978.

Jean loved to go on the road with JH, traveling across the country and also making several trips back to Canada to see family and friends. She enjoyed travel, especially cruises, and generally hit the dessert bar first. She enjoyed watching her daughter Kim participate in rodeo events and her sons play football. She loved pretty clothes, taking walks in the sunshine and playing with her grandchildren.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband JH, daughter Kimberly Thomas, grandchildren Travis, Matthew and John, and her beloved cousin Jessie.

Jean is survived by son James and wife Shannon; son David and wife Tami; Grandchildren Justin Kirk and wife Levie; Lauren Lynch and husband Chris; Emily Ham and husband Stephen; Noah, Elijah, Adam, Elizabeth (Meg), Brittany Simons and husband Jurgen; Kelly Thomas and Ernest Thomas II; Great-grandchildren Travis, Hannah, Reese, Zahara, Ryan, Declan, Lillian, River, Avery and Blair.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home in Seagoville on February 4th followed immediately by a Celebration of Life service at 3 p.m. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
