He was born on March 12, 1946 in Waxahachie, Texas to Jack and Ruth Hopkins. He will be remembered as a caring brother, tender-hearted husband, proud and giving dad, and loveable Pawpaw.
Jack lived a full life and made many wonderful memories along the way. He proudly served in the United States Air Force beginning in May of 1966 where he worked as a weapons mechanic. After leaving the Air Force, Jack found his way back to Texas. In his younger years, Jack enjoyed bird hunting, and target and skeet-shooting. He also enjoyed fishing and playing golf. Jack also spent many weekends, with his family in tow, at the dirt track. He loved to drive his custom-built push-buggies all around the track and the pits at Thunderbird Speedway. He spent a lot of time with Vickie and the girls whether it be pulling a horse trailer to rodeos for barrel racing competitions or watching them cheer or play sports. In his later years, Jack enjoyed gardening and playing games of fetch with his four-legged son, Buddy. He was a member of The Way Church where he enjoyed singing his favorite worship songs on Sunday mornings.
Jack had several ventures in the automotive industry. He was a creative man and was able to display his talent when painting and customizing vehicles. One of his most memorable designs was his “Huntin’ Buggy” where he hand-painted wood panels and a nature mural on the side of the van that he would take hunting. Also, in honor of 9/11, Jack proudly customized a truck in red, white, and blue. In the last several years, he could be found at Vic’s Paint and Body where he and his brother worked together.
The time spent with Vickie, the girls and their families, and Buddy, were his most treasured moments. He was a man of few words but could tell you all you needed to know with one look. He was a generous and caring man; he would give anything to make sure his family had all they needed and wanted. He was slow to anger and had a way of making you feel like everything was going to be okay. He was also a handyman and you could always count on him to “fix it” no matter what. His grandkids and great grandkids saw him as having a strong demeanor but also playful and gentle.
Jack is survived by Vickie Lynn Hopkins, his wife of 42 years, his daughter Kristi Tadlock and husband Justin Tadlock, daughter Mckenzie Musgrove and husband Brandon Musgrove, and daughter Katie Browning and husband Matt Browning.
