Albert Alvis Jolly, Sr., 79, passed away on January 23, 2016 in Dallas, TX. He was born on August 31, 1936 to Atlas Jolly and Lavada Ethridge of New Albany, MS. Al was raised in Memphis, TN and moved to Dallas, TX in the early 60’s and lived the remainder of his life in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Affectionately known as “Big Al” to his friends and family, he worked at The Dallas Morning News in the 60’s as a linotype machine mechanic. He started a small machinery moving business in the early 70’s and then decided to go to work for Able Machinery Movers as an estimator. He worked there for a few years before beginning his own company, Al Jolly Machinery Movers, in 1977 and is still operated by Al, Jr. Big Al’s passion was racing motorcycles. He won numerous trophies all over the surrounding states, as well as several championships in his earlier years. Big Al also loved fishing and hunting and was on a deer lease with family members for the last 20 years. He enjoyed life to the fullest and there was never a dull moment when he was around. Big Al decided to move in with his daughter Karen and her husband Carl as his health began to decline and this is where he spent his last few months. We will all miss his big smile and his favorite words, SHOW NO FEAR!!! Preceding him in death are his parents Atlas Jolly, Lavada Ethridge, Aubrey Ethridge and grandson Chris Jolly. Those left to cherish his memory are his children: Al Jolly Jr. and wife Becky of Seagoville, TX, Karen Kirby and husband Carl of Royse City, TX and Kelly Schwitzer of Chandler, TX; grandchildren: Brittany Hamilton, Courtney Chapman, Brandon Doherty, Candace Hadley, Brad Vaughan, Stacy Hayes, Tisha Nisbett, Jason Kirby and Carl Kirby III; great-grandchildren: Madison, Emerie, Beckham, Hunter, Hayden, Murphy, Maddox, Laynie, Naomi, Julian, Ethan, Maddie; siblings: Louise Cooper, Don Ethridge, Jewel McCarly, Lillian Nason, Calvin Jolly and Buddy Jolly; his beloved dogs: Sandy, Thomas and Chloe; and many extended family members and friends that will miss him dearly. Visitation will be 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 28, 2016 at Roselawn Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 29, 2016 at Roselawn Funeral Home followed by interment at Roselawn Memorial Gardens where he will be laid to rest in the Garden of Prayer.
