Susan Marie Mahoney

Susan Marie Mahoney passed away peacefully with her loving friends around her on Friday, February 1, 2019. She was born on August 10, 1956 in Toledo, Ohio to Clarence “Curley” and Ivalue Biler. At the age of four, the family moved to Mesa, Arizona, and in the sixth grade, she started attending Gilbert Public Schools.

Susan was very involved in school and had many friends. Those who knew her will remember the parties in “Biler’s Barn” where her parents would take their car keys, because they knew there would be drinking! She was always the host of Gilbert High School’s Class of 1974’s very successful Homecoming float parties in the barn.

After graduation, Susan attended Mesa Community College and began working at Ray Korte Chevrolet as a cashier. In 1978, she began working at Brown & Brown Chevrolet on Main Street in Mesa where she moved up the ladder to the Business Office Manager position. She worked for Henry Brown for 40 years when she retired in February 2018 from Henry Brown Buick GMC.

Susan married Danny Roy Mahoney on May 1, 1982, and they moved to a new house in Gilbert in 1983. It was here that she had her son, Joshua Eugene Mahoney on June 13, 1983. This was the proudest accomplishment she had in her life. He was the sunshine in her life. While Josh was growing up, she served as his soccer coach, volunteered in his classroom, and took him and his friends to Disneyland, Magic Mountain, and San Diego, along with taking them skiing at Snow Bowl in Flagstaff. There was not much Susan would not do for her son. To all of his friends, Susan was known as “Mom”. Even today, she still is called Mom by many of Josh’s friends!

Susan will be remembered for the beautiful person that she was. She was nurturing, compassionate, loving and kind. She loved knowing that she was a great friend to everyone she came in contact, and she had many friends!

Susan is preceded in death by her father, Curley, mother, Ivalue, son, Joshua, and husband, Danny. She is survived by her sister, Claudia (Terry) Childs, nephews Darry (Laureen) Childs, Craig Childs, and Martin Childs (Bailey Edwards), great-nephews, Zachary and Nicholas, Austin, Tyler (Shelby Carouthers-Childs), Ryan and AJ Childs, In-laws Leo and Karen Mahoney, adopted mom Estefana “Fannie” Lerma, adopted sister, Loraine Lerma, adopted daughters Amanda Keil & Cheryl Garner, and adopted son, Cade Ludwig. Also, Susan was the “absolute best Nana ever” to Aiden Keil and Emily Sartin.

On Saturday, February 23rd, a closed casket gathering will begin at 10AM, with funeral services at 11AM, and graveside services at noon at Green Acres Mortuary 401 N. Hayden Road, Scottsdale, AZ. A reception will be held starting at 1:30PM at Muse & Market at 4602 E. Thomas Road, Phoenix, AZ 85018.
