Stan, as he was known to family, friends and colleagues, was born on June 20, 1926 in New York City to Harry (Hershel) and Gussie (Golda) Lachman Levine. He and his younger sister, Florence, survived the Great Depression. He was a brilliant student of the natural and physical sciences, graduating from the elite Bronx High School of Science. After serving in the US Army during World War 2, he earned a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy from Fordham University College of Pharmacy. He relocated to Detroit, and married Sylvia Udkowsky on March 21, 1951. Stan and Sylvia had 3 children, Gary, Dennis, and Lori. He established and operated Kenwood Drugs, then earned his DO degree in 1959 from the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed an internship at Detroit Osteopathic Hospital, then established an osteopathic practice in Pontiac, which he operated until 1987. He provided general medical, minor surgical, and obstetrical care at Pontiac Osteopathic Hospital. Stan was a member of Congregation B’nai Moshe in Oak Park. After Sylvia passed away in 1973, he remarried a widow, Phyllis (Phephe) Levett Drucker in 1975, and her daughters Julie and Wendy joined the family. Stan and Phyllis relocated to Scottsdale, Arizona, in 1987, where he practiced again for several years before retiring to a life of leisure. After Phyllis passed away in 2009, Stan spent most of his remaining years in a local retirement community, often in the company of his loving daughter Wendy.
During the active years of his life, Stan enjoyed walking in the woods, bowling, golf, fishing, glass blowing, weaving, and casino games. He was a longstanding member of the American Osteopathic Association. He donated his time to the Salvation Army and Leader Dogs for the Blind. He was a man of great integrity and inclusion, and his gentle manner and compassion for others was well recognized by all who crossed his path.
Stan was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Gussie, his sister Florence, his wives Sylvia and Phyllis, and his daughter Lori.
