As I sit down to pen my mother Dr. Santosh Singh's obituary; many memories of her as a caring daughter, a devoted sister, a loyal wife, a doting mother and a loving grandmother flash before my eyes. In death as in life, she was composed, calm, graceful till the end. Many who mourn her passing should take comfort in the fact that she is now in the company of her darling and cherished husband Raj. He was the love and light of her life. She saw a great deal of him in her grandson Raj Jr. While I know that the next few days, weeks and years will remind us of her loss, we need to honor her by carrying on her philosophy of “hard work” and “selfless service” . She dedicated her life to taking care of the weak, the poor and the sick, be it as a medical doctor in her youth and later on as member and president of many charitable organizations like the local chapter of The Rotary International where she served as the president from 2002-2003 in New Delhi.
She has inspired the same zeal and purpose in many around her. As her daughter, I was blessed to have watched my mother triumph in many a trying time with unwavering dedication. She was a determined person who never gave up until the task at hand was completed to her satisfaction, whether it was big or small. Many of you may remember her as a “Chanel and Ferragamo Lady” given her love for couture and her timeless fashion sense both in business and in her personal life.
Later in life, she rejoiced in the birth of a much-awaited grandson Raj Jr. in 2013. She saw him grow from a cheerful infant into a lovable, smart, and well-mannered young boy. It gave her great joy to see him grow up and was, without doubt, one of the reasons she overcome many debilitating injuries and illness over the past few years. Raj says that his “Nani” is now an angel in heaven who will protect and guide us through life.
There is so much more that I can and want to write about my brilliant and devoted mother, but in the interest of time and space, I must end my tribute to her. Aditya, Raj, and I welcome your kind thoughts, prayers on her memorial page listed in this link.
Her loving daughter,
Shakti
