Richard P. Edelstein, age 97, of Tempe Arizona passed away on December 25, 2021. He was born in The Bronx New York on April 30, 1924. Richard graduated from Townsend Harris High School in New York at age 15 and received his bachelors degree from City College of New York at age 18. He then joined the Army and was sent to the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor to study Japanese after which he was sent to Washington, D.C. where he worked on translating the Japanese code.
After being discharged from the Army, Richard enrolled in Columbia University where he received a Masters Degree in Oriental Languages.
Richard was married to Selma Weingrad on August 5th, 1948 in Paris France.
Richard had a career in the film industry with Paramount Pictures in Europe for 16 years. After leaving Paramount Richard owned a correspondence school, a vending company, and finished his career as a teacher in the Phoenix school system.
After retirement Richard did business mentoring at SCORE and also acted as a Child Advocate in the Phoenix court system.
Richard is survived by his spouse of 73 years, Selma Edelstein; 2 Children: Peter (Linda), Robert (Anne); 7 Grandchildren: Jennifer (George), Daniel (Kelly), Joseph K.(Adrienne), Nicholas (Jenna), Joseph E., Katherine (Kenneth), Erin (Weston); 11 Great Grandchildren: Kyan, Calix, Landon, Leighton, Mackenzie, Olivia, Alaster, Madeleine, Ian, Wyatt, and William.
Richard was predeceased by a brother Melvin and 2 sisters Shirley and Maryanne
