Mary Margaret Gorman passed away peacefully on March 19, 2024. Her final moments were spent surrounded by family. She was preceded in death by her husband Harold Peter Gorman and two sons, Michael and Patrick Gorman. Up until the end Mary maintained her kindness, grace, humor, faith, compassion, and love of family and pets.
Born in Peoria, Illinois on August 19, 1935, Mary moved to Arizona with her parents (Nona and Walter Hawk) in 1957 and found a job as a secretary at Air Research. There she met the love of her life, Harry Gorman whom she married in 1959. They built a house in south Scottsdale where she spent 63 years raising her family, having coffee with neighbors, taking care of pets and attending Mass at St. Daniel the Prophet and Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic churches. She loved going to country fairs, decorating her house for Christmas, going out for lunch and caring for her beloved West Highland White Terriers Bonnie, Meghan and Lacey. As a stay-at-home mom and wife, she devoted her life to her taking care of Harry and their five children: Michael Gorman (deceased), Patrick Gorman (deceased), Marie Myers (Steve), Kevin Gorman (Julia) and Colleen Fincke (Joseph). She and Harry raised their children with love and devotion, instilling in them their Catholic faith and a love of music and pets. She was most proud of her five children, her four grandchildren; Christopher Myers (Nicole), Kaitlyn O’Connell (Tim), Kyle Myers (Samantha) and Abigail Gorman and her five great grandchildren; Jack Myers, William Myers, Finnegan O’Connell, Peter O’Connell and Scott O’Connell.
Mary will be missed by all who knew her. Mary’s family asks that she be remembered for the joy and beauty she brought to others, not the sadness of her passing.
A funeral Mass will be held on April 3, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Scottsdale, Arizona with internment immediately following at Green Acres Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, friends wishing to honor Mary are invited to make a donation in her name to Hospice of the Valley.
