Marilyn (Cerio) Giglio, age 77, was born on Feb. 9, 1944 to Caroline and Carmen Cerio in Syracuse, NY. Though she grew up and lived in Solvay, then Liverpool, NY most of her life, she moved to Scottsdale, AZ in 2007, where she died peacefully, surrounded by her loving family in her own home on March 17, 2021 after a long battle with cancer.
After graduating from Solvay High School in 1961, Marilyn attended beauty school and soon after opened a high-end salon at the Regency Towers in downtown Syracuse with a partner. She’d later return to her original vocation of hairdressing when she owned and operated a home hair care business in both Syracuse and then Scottsdale – helping women in nursing homes and those home-bound. Throughout her life, she was an accomplished artist, published poet, volunteer and active community member.
She enjoyed bowling, tennis, dancing, travel, trivia nights out, time with family and friends and the occasional happy hour! Of course she loved golfing and even made a hole in one at Pinegrove Golf Course in Syracuse prior to moving to AZ! She served as the president of the Liverpool Art Guild in the 1980s, completed classes towards her Associates Degree at Onondaga Community College, and worked in both real estate and banking, as well as retail sales, throughout her career.
Marilyn was pre-deceased by ex-husbands and friends Patrick M. DiDomenico (father of her three children), and Frank Giglio; her mother, Caroline Cerio, and father, Carmen Cerio. She leaves behind children Anthony J. DiDomenico, Patrick V. DiDomenico and Nicole M. DiDomenico; granddaughter Elliana S. Jorgenson; and siblings Janice (Nicholas) Paventi and Donald Cerio (both residing in Syracuse, NY.), as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews whom Marilyn loved dearly.
She and her family wish her to be remembered as the good, loyal, generous and fun-loving mother, daughter, sister and friend she was to so many. In lieu of flowers, Marilyn wished for any family member or friend wishing to honor her memory to donate to either St. Jude’s Children Hospital (www.stjude.org) or Mercy Ships (mercyships.org) – both organizations that serve children with medical needs and their families – a life-long passion and charitable mission of hers.
