Leroy Paul Schmitt, 69, passed away on January 11, 2016 at Banner Hospice House in Sun City. Leroy, known to many as Schmitty, left the world with a smirk on his face and a hell of a lot of model airplane parts and tools nobody in his household knows how to use (for those interested in said tools please wait a socially acceptable amount of days before price negotiations can begin). Apart from being an avid computer user, skilled fishermen, frequent Amazon shopper, Gold-Wing enthusiast, part time inventor/handyman, and proponent of anything with the word “bacon” in it, Schmitty leaves behind a lifetime of memories. These are memories full of love, laughter, and alcohol (if most are told right) that live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Leroy was a kind-hearted and selfless man who valued family above all else. You would be hard pressed to find someone that Leroy didn’t make laugh or smile. He was a loving and supportive grandfather as well as, in his words, a “not great but pretty damn close” great grandfather. Leroy is preceded in death by his parents Catherine and Leroy Anthony. Leroy is survived by his wife of 48 years Ursula Schmitt as well as his four children: Silke (Ricky), Heike, Ricky (Elke), and Veronica. Furthermore Leroy is survived by enough grandchildren and great-grandchildren to form a small village, that he no doubt bragged about to anyone he came in contact with. For those of you who need a little refresher, brace yourselves because this is going to take a while: Grandchildren- Sabrina, Areanna, Josh, Manuel, Kyle (Erica), Nicole, Dominic, Eric, Cori (Gabe), Lei’Lani, Tatianna, Jordan, Sabrina S. (Brian), Jan Ehrin and of course the Greskos: Jerry, Catie, and Patrick (still not done) Great-grandchildren- Raiden, Riley, Aiden, Aubrey, Julie, Audrey, Lucas, Delilah, and Oliver. Last but not least, his favorite (and only) sister-in-law Gerlinde. Leroy also leaves behind a multitude of beloved friends whose most embarrassing stories have been shared throughout the family at his discretion. We love you Opa, try not to cause too much mischief up there!
