Ken was employed with the City of Phoenix as a geographer for 14 years. Prior to that he worked as a restaurant manger and bartender in Flagstaff, Arizona; during which time he accumulated many longtime friends. He was a lover of professional football and although he adored the New England Patriots, his heart was with his Arizona Cardinals where he was a season ticket holder since 1999. His passion was in his family. He loved following his adult daughters’ lives, sharing meals and travel with them at all possible times. He also loved to travel to visit his parents and siblings on the East Coast. He was an interesting and intelligent man who loved to converse, argue and exchange knowledge; he made friends wherever he went with infinite, incalculable charm. Ken enjoyed supporting animal rights and environmental preservation in addition to his many other interests.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Jolie Fontana-Black, his daughters, Laura Lynn Black and Natali Nichole Black, his mother and father, C. Doug and Barbara Black, Merritt island, Florida, sister Helen-Beth Black (Henry) brothers Doug (Jill) and Larry Black (Irene). Besides his wonderful aunts and uncles, Kenneth was good friends with his many cousins, Lisa, Laurie, Mitchell, Susan, Marty, Meg, Judy, Bill, Rick, Laurie, Priscilla, Fritz, David, Michael, Mardie, Joanne, Mark.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, April 3, 2016 at 4:00 pm at Rolling Hills Golf Course, 1415 N. Mill Ave., Tempe, AZ 85281
