Jim is survived by his wife, Marilyn Rose (nee Todaro), and his three sons, Jim, Jr, Jeff and Craig, as well as his sisters, Donna and Marlene.
Jim was born September 18, 1939. He was the youngest child of Lyle and Ellie Van Wagoner. Jim grew up in the suburbs of Flint, Michigan. His family owned a dog kennel and the whole family participated in tending the business. Jim was an avid hunter and fisherman. Jim and his beloved dog, Sally, had a special bond and Jim trained Sally as his hunting companion.
The Van Wagoner family were a musical family. All of Jim’s siblings were encouraged to learn a musical instrument, and dad’s instrument was the piano. After graduating high school, Jim and his band traveled the road, performing in night clubs all over the east coast, where he met his wife, Marilyn in Rockford, IL. During the early years, Jim and Marilyn traveled with his rock band up and down the east coast. James was an amazing keyboard player and brought joy to all that heard him play.
Eventually, Jim and Marilyn settled in Tempe, Arizona where they raised a family of three boys. James went into sales and stayed within the music industry selling pianos and organs. He spent many years with Sherman Clay, Washburn Music and continued playing the piano in his spare time to make extra money.
Jim had a passion for many sports and was an avid golfer. He was a loving husband and father. His amazing skill on the piano will never be forgotten. He is missed by us all.
