Jack Elwood Curl of Scottsdale, Arizona passed away Monday morning, January 29, 2018. At the age of 96, his entire life had been one of sound mind and body. He was a resident of Scottsdale Village Square, having lived in Arizona for five decades. He was born September 30th, 1921 to Neoma and John Henry Curl of Gribble Springs, Texas. He was one of five children. At age 19, Jack enlisted and served proudly as a Marine from August 1940 to August 1946. He served upon the USS Arizona until the year prior to Pearl Harbor. Active duty in Japan included Nagasaki, Kyushu and Iwo Jima where Jack was awarded the Bronze Star for Combat Actions. He was blessed with a marriage of 66 years to his beloved Bess Wilson Curl who preceded him in death, May of 2013. His careers were always involved in sales as Jack was a people person. He was an active member and Deacon with Coronado Southern Baptist Church. Impeccably dressed, he was a leader in national sales with Diamond’s Suits. He also had been an owner/operator in the Circle K chain. Jack and Bessie raised five children. Jackie Bishop (Gregory), Cathie Sapp (Jeff), Jeff Curl, Debra Carlborg, and Amanda Sue Curl. To assist in carrying on the memory of Jack and Bessie are their nine grandchildren; Michael Carlborg, Steven Carlborg, Shelly Carlborg, Paige Sapp, Lindsay Sapp, Brian Curl, Amy Grebe (Nick), Cassandra Sapp, and Brendan Curl (Kelsey). And seven great grandchildren; Brysn Curl, Claire Grefe, Jack Richard Carlborg, Casey Lynn Carlborg, Zachary Carlborg, Dylan McCain, and Layla McCain. He is also survived by his younger brother, James Curl. Jack was preceded in death by two grandchildren; Kevin Bishop, Scott Bishop, and youngest daughter, Amanda Sue Curl. His sisters Annie Lee Hooten, Gwendolyn Frye, and Johnnie Lovell all of Denton, Texas. Visitation for Jack Elwood Curl will be held on Friday, February 2nd at 10 AM. Services will follow at 11 AM at Green Acres Mortuary and Cemetery - 401 North Hayden Road, Scottsdale, Arizona 85257.
