Geraldine (Geri) H. Turner, ninety-five years of age, died following the diagnosis of COVID-19, on December 22, 2021 in the Weyrich Health Care Center at Westminster Village, Scottsdale Arizona. She was compassionately cared for by the Weyrich and Summit Healthcare hospice nursing staff.
Geri was born in Kansas City, Missouri on October 29, 1925. She lived most of her adult life in Arizona, settling in Scottsdale with her husband Harold C. Turner, both enjoying the desert climate and the casual western lifestyle. Geri and Harold had no children. She thoughtfully and consistently remembered birthday celebrations of her nieces, nephews and their children. Geri was a talented painter. She appreciated and studied the work of regional southwest artists. She also had a particular penchant for impressionism. Claude Monet was one of her most admired artists. In her life, Geri had made several visits to the gardens of Giverny in France. Beyond art, she had an adventurous spirit and a passion for travel. In addition to traveling with her husband Harold, she occasionally, extended an invitation to a family member to accompany her to Europe. Advancing age did not slow her down. On a visit to China in her later years, a nephew and his wife helped Geri to ascend the steep and often slippery stairs of the Great Wall of China. At home in Scottsdale, and in travels in the states visiting family, Geri enjoyed teaching young family members the arts of knitting, sewing and cooking. She particularly enjoyed baking tasty desert treats for nieces and nephews that would visit her home for weekend sleep-overs. Her love of animals was expressed by the companionship she enjoyed by a faithful puppy or a snuggly kitten. Geri was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and supported the St. Jude’s Hospital for Children and Shriner’s International.
Geraldine was preceded in death by her husband Harold C. Turner, her parents, George and Lola Harmon (Scottsdale, Arizona) and her niece, Patsy Jones (Corning, Kansas). She is survived by her sister-in-law Janice Turner (Scottsdale, Arizona), and nieces Lisa K. Skelton (Scappoose, Oregon) and Sheila Pallotta (Martinez, California). Surviving nephews include: Curtis Hulett (Deer Park, Texas), Dale Turner (Berryton, Kansas), Carl Hedlund (Gold Canyon, Arizona) and Dr. Gary Hedlund (Crowheart, Wyoming).
Due to current pandemic health safety considerations, a memorial celebration of Geri’s life will be planned at a later date.
