Eileen Moroney Ranahan, 93, of Scottsdale, AZ, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her husband and family, on April 27, 2018, from the effects of a stroke. A woman of uncommon kindness and serenity, she leaves behind a legacy of unselfishness as unforgettable as her ever-present smile. The daughter of Hal and Jule Moroney, Eileen was preceded in death by her brother, Bob, and her sister, Judy; an infant son, Francis, and her sons Richard and Michael. She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Eddie, and their daughters, Maureen (Bob), Julie (Dan), and Mary Pat (Keith); daughter-in-law Patty Ranahan; grandchildren Robert (Amanda), Patrick (Colleen), Dan (Kate), Denis (Christine), Devin, Dylan, Morgan, and Mairead; 7 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends near and far. Born and raised in a strong Irish family in Chicago, Eileen was devoted to her children and her faith. She and her dear partner Eddie raised their family in suburban Winfield, before moving in retirement to Scottsdale. In both Illinois and Arizona, Eileen was active in parish activities, as well as a host of outreach efforts on behalf of the elderly, the imprisoned, and the forgotten. Everyone lucky enough to have known Eileen knew her to be happiest with a baby in her lap, a song on her lips, and a hand in hers. The family will gather at a mass and memorial in Winfield, Illinois, over Labor Day weekend to celebrate this remarkable woman and give thanks for the gift of her life in ours. Eileen exuded peace and joy and would urge all who loved her to do the same. We’ll do our best, Eileen. We also promise to keep singing.
