Born June 26, 1956, to Alan & Mary Jane (Goff) Innes in Phoenix AZ. Passed away June 16, 2023 in Queen Creek AZ with his wife and son by his side.
David grew up in east Phoenix, graduating from Orangedale Elementary and East High School. After high school, David served in the US Navy from 1974-1980. He was a First Class Machinist Mate working in the engine room and was stationed on ships based out of San Diego USS George K. MacKenzie (DD-836) and then transferred to Norfolk, Virginia to the USS Forrestal (CVA-59), and the USS La Salle (AGF-3) in the Middle East. He was very proud to have served and was always ready to share interesting stories about his time in the navy.
Fresh out of the service, Dave followed in his dad's and granddad's footsteps into the machine shop where he found his true passion in all things mechanical, manufacturing and aerospace related. For 42 years he was proud to have worked for AiResearch, Garrett, Honeywell, and a few other top aerospace companies in Arizona. He was a machinist, CNC programmer, manufacturing engineer, and R&D engineer. He loved all phases of designing and producing machined parts. Over the years he was awarded several patents and received many proud accomplishments. He also had a deep passion for knowledge of anything and everything, collections, as well as muscle cars and classic cars.
Dave met his soulmate Theresa “Terri” Ruffner at Garrett, they were married June 21, 1986. They had one son, Andrew David, in December 1987. David was so very proud of Terri and Andrew, and both were at his side every single step of their journey. In 1997, they traveled together to Scotland with David’s parents. Al acted as tour guide, taking them to visit places all over Scotland and to see where David’s grandparents grew up. It was the trip of a lifetime.
He loved animals and especially had a soft spot for English mastiff’s, having raised 50 mastiffs. Goliath, Princess, Duchess, Zeus, and shared a Scottish Terrier with Dave’s parents. Sinbad and Avatar (Great Dane-Doberman) were his first pups after the Navy.
David leaves behind his wife of 37 years Theresa, son Andrew (Christian) and four grandchildren Bentley, Brodie, Everly and Tayler. His sister Karen, her husband David Wallace. Sisters-in-law Grace (Jack) Whipkey, and Genny Pugh, Brothers-in-law Dwayne (Shelly) Ruffner, David (Terri) Ruffner, Eric Ruffner and many nieces and nephews and dog Titan. He was recently preceded in death by his mother-in-law Phyllis Ruffner, his parents Al and Mary Jane Innes.
A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday June 28, 2023, at 10 am Green Acres 401 N Hayden Rd Scottsdale. The celebration will continue at the Four Peaks Brewery 1340 E 8th St Tempe. Please wear casual comfortable clothing. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice or to the humane society.
His ashes will later be entrusted to the US Navy for burial at sea.
