David was born on February 26, 1938 to Dr. Abraham and Ruth Goldfarb of East Rutherford, New Jersey. David grew up with a large, loving family close by and during his childhood he enjoyed baseball and played violin at Juilliard.
He graduated from Johns Hopkins University for both undergraduate and medical school. He completed a residency in cardiovascular thoracic surgery at the University of Pittsburgh where he met the love of his life, Joan. They eventually moved to Phoenix, Arizona where David established a successful medical practice at St. Joseph’s and St. Luke’s Hospitals.
He retired in 1997 to pursue the various hobbies in which he excelled. He enjoyed reading, music, marathons, triathlons, hiking, biking, fishing and skiing. David was an inventor and a private pilot. He often flew his family to their vacation destinations. David had a green thumb and was able to grow a thriving garden, even in the desert soil. He was loved immensely by his friends, patients and co-workers. His secretary, Hannah, worked with him for his and her entire career.
He was a very humble, generous, sincere, loyal friend, son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather. David touched all of those who met him.
He leaves behind his wife, Joan of 48 years and five children; Melissa (Todor), Michael (Sally), Joshua (Charlotte), Jill (Jeffrey) and Abbie (Buzzi).
He also leaves behind his grandchildren; Aidan, Liam, Margo, Maya, Nora, Ethan, Ralston, Elliot, Evelyn, (Anna, deceased), Brayden, and Alexia.
He is survived by his sister, Naomi and preceded in death by his sister, Judith.
The family will have a private service at the gravesite, per the wishes of Dr. David Goldfarb. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C., St. Vincent De Paul Medical/ Dental Clinic in Phoenix or Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
