On March 18th, Claude Grant Dunning, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away at the age of 87 years in his home in Scottsdale. Claude was born in Burbank, California in 1935 and obtained a degree in aeronautics from Glendale College. His passion for flying led him to become a commercial airline pilot where he met his first wife, Cynthia Louise. They were married in 1965, moved to Phoenix and raised two sons, Brian and Craig. During his 33-year career as a pilot, he flew for Admiral Air Services, Bonanza, Hughes Airwest, Republic, and Northwest. He became a grandfather in 1998 with the birth of Dexter, followed by Andrew, Connor, Alexander, and Amanda. Sadly, Cynthia passed away in 1999. He married Jeanne Marie in 2001. They spent their summers in Greer, winters in Scottsdale, playing golf, travelling all over the world, and spending time with their grandchildren.
Claude’s passion for the sports and the outdoors was well known by all. He played tennis, enjoyed water & snow skiing, golf, riding motorcycles, loved to hike and walk in the desert and mountains, and instilled in his family an allegiance to the Suns and AZ Cardinals.
Claude was known for his sense of humor, storytelling, and sharp wit. Many fond memories of Claude telling stories about his childhood in CA, raising a family, flying and spending time with friends. Claude leaves behind his wife Jeanne, sons Brian and Craig, daughter-in-law Elizabeth, and grandchildren Dexter, Andrew, Connor, Alex, and Amanda.
