Bryon Wayne Russell, age 44, of Scottsdale, Arizona passed away on Wednesday June 5, 2019. Bryon was born March 22, 1975. Bryon was raised in Clarksville, Ohio where he attended Clinton Massie High School. He was very athletic, played football and was a baseball umpire. Bryon graduated in 1993. After graduating high school, Bryon enlisted in the US Army where he shipped to Basic Combat Training at Ft. Jackson, South Carolina. Following basic training, Bryon went to Ft. Benning for Infantry Training, Parachute Jump School and finally Army Ranger School. Bryon was a Senior Scout in the 25th Infantry Division's Long Range Surveillance Detachment where he earned additional Ranger, Airborne and Air Assault qualifications. Bryon was very proud and honored to serve his country. Being an Army Airborne Ranger was a huge accomplishment and part of his life.
After his military service, Bryon attended ASU where he earned a BS in Criminal Justice. In 2001, Bryon decided to open a restaurant with his best friend Barry. They opened Philly's Sports Bar in Tempe, which now has several locations across The Valley. Bryon was very adventurous and enjoyed the outdoors. Fishing was his favorite pastime, despite being terrible at it :) He enjoyed camping with his furry companions, shooting and just about anything that was outdoors. Bryon is survived by his father, Dennis Russell (Connie); Brother, Todd Russell. He is predeceased by his mother, Judy Russell. Bryon was a gentle soul with a fun loving personality and a wonderful sense of humor. He will missed by his family and many close friends.
A Visitation for Bryon will be held Saturday, June 22, 2019 at 10:00 AM at Green Acres Mortuary & Cemetery, 401 North Hayden Road, Scottsdale, Arizona 85257. A Celebration of Life will occur Saturday, June 22, 2019 at 11:00 AM with Burial to follow. Please continue the celebration of Bryon's life at Philly's on Scottsdale at 1826 N.
