Phoenix advertising pioneer, Bill M. Owens, 76, of Scottsdale, AZ passed away December 22, 2010. Bill was born on April 23, 1934 to Cecil and Mary Owens in Oneonta, Alabama. He moved with his family to Ajo, Arizona in 1941 where became an Eagle Scout and won All State honors playing football for the Ajo Red Raiders. He went on to earn a Bachelors? Degree in marketing from Woodbury University in Los Angeles, CA. He returned to Arizona and opened Owens Associates Advertising on New Years day in 1960, which is still in operation today as Owens Harkey & Associates. He was honored as Ad Man of the year in Phoenix and featured in AdWeek magazine as an industry leader in the Southwest. His agency broke new ground by being the first Arizona agency to attract national advertising accounts. He also had a great love for the Arabian Horse, Owens Arabian Ranch was internationally famed for its training and breeding operations. He served two terms as president of the Arabian Horse Association of Arizona and was instrumental development of Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show. He is survived by his wife Marta Owens, his two sons, B. Mark Owens and Matthew Owens and their wives Trini & Karen. He was a cherished grandfather to 3 grandchildren, Brandon and his wife Rachelle, Tayler, Taryn and 1 great-grand child, Kyree. A visitation, memorial & graveside service will be held on Tuesday December 28 from 1:30pm to 3:30pm at Green Acres Mortuary and Cemetery, 401 N. Hayden Rd. (Hayden & McKellips) in Scottsdale.
