Alvin Lee Gaines “Sugar”, was born to Adam and Annie Mae Gaines, July 10, 1946 in Webbs, MS. He was one of seven children. Alvin’s parents moved to Chicago, IL when he was an infant. He accepted Christ at an early age and joined the Canna Baptist Church in Chicago. He was a member of the Mason Orders. He married the late Alfred Gaines, and to this union, one son, Alvin Jr. was born. He retired from the Chicago Park District, where he worked as a Stationary Engineer for 33 years. After retiring he moved to Tempe, AZ. And married Alice Posey Gaines. They joined Cross Pointempe Baptist Church, along with two of their children. Before he became very ill, he worked for the Tempe Elementary School District # 3 for a number of years.
His memory will be cherished by a loving, devoted wife, four daughters, Yvette, Keshia, Gwendolyn, all of Chicago, and Barbara of Tempe, AZ., one son Alvin Jr., of Chicago. Another son Bernard preceded him in death; a loving niece, Patricia Brown of Matteson, IL; two sisters Mary Lee and Lois both of Minneapolis, MN; two brothers and two sisters who preceded him in death; one aunt Gussie Lee of Omaha, NE; three sisters-in-law, Nancy (George) of Federal Way, WA., Mayola of Memphis, TN., and Izola of Chicago, IL; grandchildren, nieces, nephews, a special extended family and a host of friends.
