Allen R. Smith, 91 of Scottsdale, AZ passed away December 17, 2015. He was born February 6, 1924 and raised in a one-room shack on a dairy farm in Safford, AZ. Allen joined the US horse calvary at the age of 16 and subsequently joined the US Army Air Corps after commencement of WW II. He flew 50 missions as Group Commander of 459th Bomb GP 15th AF, earning four Distinguished Flying Cross and retiring as Major USAF. Allen moved to Phoenix in 1947 for which he started AR Smith Plastering; renaming it to Smith & Green Corp in 1963 which subcontracted in all western states. He was known by all as a Man’s Man, tuff as nails but fair, caring and true to his word. He is rejoining the love of his life for 73 years, Betty Jo for which he lost April of this year. Allen is survived by his son Dick; daughter Kris; grandson Lance (Carrie); and great grandchildren Zach, Alexa, and Emma. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 am on December 30, 2015 at Green Acres Cemetery, 401 N. Hayden Rd., Scottsdale, AZ 85257.
