A public viewing will be held at Dugan Kramer Funeral Chapel on Friday, August 20, 2021 from 5-7PM. Family will be present from 6-7PM. His funeral service will be held Saturday, August 21 at 10 AM at Calvary Lutheran Church in Scottsbluff. Burial will take place at Fairview Cemetery in Scottsbluff. Casual dress is asked and family highly encouraging masks to be worn. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Calvary Lutheran Church or to the family to be designated at a later time. He was born March 25, 1946, in Denver, Colorado to Benjamin and Maxine (Fox) Steele. He was an only child, but had many cousins who were close to him. He graduated from Bennett High School in 1963. He attended Colorado State University and graduated in 1969 with a degree in secondary education.
He married Nancy Lynne Anderson on July 22, 1966, in Fairplay, Colorado, and they were happily married for 55 years. They made their home in numerous communities, finally settling in Scottsbluff, Nebraska.
After he graduated from CSU, he took a job at Minatare Public Schools where he taught high school math and coached football, basketball and track. He later moved to Scottsbluff where he taught math at Scottsbluff Junior High and Scottsbluff High School. He also continued coaching basketball and track, and enjoyed refereeing football games around the area. He was also an active coach and board member of 23 Club Baseball for many summers. He dedicated 43 years to teaching, coaching and making an impact on youth in the area and was fondly remembered as “Coach”.
He was a member of Alpha Kappa Lambda fraternity, 23 Club Baseball and Calvary Lutheran Church where he served on numerous committees and boards.
Survivors include: his wife Nancy, of Scottsbluff. Son Andrew (Jacki) Steele of Frisco, Texas; daughter Tracy Steele of Scottsbluff; granddaughters Josephine and Jenevieve Steele of Frisco, Texas; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Roger and Barbara Cline of Aurora, CO; brother-in-law Charles Anderson of Strasburg, Colorado; sister-in-law and brother-in-law JR and Kathy Day of Brandon, Florida; aunt Eunice Steele of Colorado, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and his special adopted daughters Tammy Lutz of Bayard, Nebraska and Lisa Frahm of Gering, Nebraska.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Kimberly Anne Steele, parents Benjamin and Maxine Steele, in-laws Mel and Ruth Anderson; and by his grandparents, numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
