Velma Ruth Smith-Bacon,89, passed away on March 23, 2012 when angels came and carried our loving mother and grandmother and laid her into the loving hands of our Lord. A Memorial service will be held Saturday, March 31, 2012 at 2:00 p.m., at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel in Scottsbluff, with Pastor Gary Cole officiating. Inurnment will follow at East Lawn Cemetery. Velma was born April 22, 1922, to Amos and Pearl (Ingwerson) Mowery near Sheridan Lake, Colorado. Velma will be remembered by her family as everything, kind, loving, funny, the rock for all of us. She will always be with us and will be missed by all. Velma is survived by her daughter, Naoma Hurst of Scottsbluff and Bobbie Smith of Gering; step-children, Shirley Sterkel and Jim Bacon; grandchildren, Steve Sayler, Tina (Gary) Bagley, Stanley (Susi) Smith, Cheri (Evan) Stricker; seven great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death are her parents; siblings; husbands, Rolland K. Smith and Kenneth Bacon; and sons, Kenneth Dale and Stanley R. Smith.
