

Marilyn Esther Carlson, 80, of Scottsbluff, Nebraska died Sunday, October 30, 2005 at Regional West Medical Center. Her memorial service will be held Saturday, November 5, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at the Calvary Lutheran Church in Scottsbluff with Pastor Ray Venghaus officiating. Cremation was held at Sunset Memorial Park Crematory. Marilyn was born on October 13, 1925 at Bertrand, NE. to Evar E. and Esther O. (Matson) Crantz. The family lived at Bassett, NE. for five years moving to Newman Grove, NE. She graduated from Newman Grove High School in 1943; from Luther Junior College in Wahoo in 1945 and attended Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minn in 1947. She was united in marriage to Stewart Carlson on December 23, 1946. They had two children before moving to East Africa in 1950 to work in the mission field. They spent 20 years in Tanganyika /Tanzania where the other four children were born. Marilyn did volunteer work and teaching in Africa. She enjoyed landscaping, clothing design and quilting for refugees. She has lived in Scottsbluff for the last 30 years. Survivors include her children Linda Hoover of Watkinsville, GA, Jonathan Carlson of Scottsbluff, David Carlson of Bend, OR, Kay Carlson of Scottsbluff, Roderick Carlson of Omaha and Sandra Pedersen of Woodward, OK; 13 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, brothers Martin and Paul, sisters Ruth Nelson, Doris Gates and Lois Peterson and a grandson.
