James R. “Bob” Henderson, age 84 of Mitchell, died December 22, 2015 at Golden Living Center. A funeral service will be held at 1:30 P.M., Wednesday, December 30, at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel in Scottsbluff with Pastor Bev Russell officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 1-7pm at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mitchell Volunteer Fire Department or the donor’s choice. Bob was born June 17, 1931, at the family ranch in Sioux County to James and Agnes (Kennedy) Henderson. He received his education at Sioux County District #42, Mitchell High School and Colorado State University.
Bob married Mary Lou Whelen in September 1951. They had three children: Becky, Mona and Jim. Bob married Evelyn Nealy Gompert on June 10, 1974. Bob was a lifelong rancher with a special love for Hereford cattle. Bob served as a Sioux County Commissioner for 20 years. He also served on the Board of Directors for the Office of Human Development and the Aging Office of Western Nebraska. He was the Chairman of the Board for Panhandle Mental Health. Bob was a member of the American Hereford Association, Elks Lodge and was a Mason.
Survivors include his wife Evelyn; children Becky Jones of Richardson, TX, Mona Carpenter (Mike Haselden) of Carrollton, TX and Jim (Carolyn) Henderson of Mitchell; granddaughters Dr. Alicia (Joe) Kiszka and Chelsea (Brian) Oesch; great grandchildren Caden and Shae Oesch.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, sister Ruth Locker and son-in-law Randy Jones
