Harold W. Richards, 90, of Castle Rock, CO, formerly of Scottsbluff, died Saturday, September 19, 2015 at Brookside Inn in Castle Rock. Visitation will be from 1-8 PM on Thurs, September 24th at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel with family and friends present from 5-8 PM. His funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Friday, September 25, 2015 at Salem Congregational Church in Scottsbluff with Pastor Dale Brown officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery. Harold was born March 5, 1925 at Scottsbluff, NE to Fred and Anna (Herdt) Richards. He attended country schools in rural Scotts Bluff County before working on the farm with his father for a few years. He was united in marriage to Bertha Kaufman on November 27, 1945 at Scottsbluff. The couple made their home in Scottsbluff where they raised their two children: Diana and Lonnie.
Harold worked for Pacific Fruit for 21 years before starting Richards Produce in 1972 which he owned an operated until 2008. He was a member of Salem Congregational Church and the Scottsbluff Elks Lodge. Harold was well-known as a fast pitch softball pitcher; he threw several “no hitters” up until his 40’s. Harold and Bertha enjoyed Polka Dancing. Harold was well-known for his quick wit and being a jokester. He was a man of noble character and was liked by all who knew him. He will be greatly missed.
Harold is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Diana (Alvin) Stobel of Aurora, CO; son and daughter-in-law Lon and Lisa Richards of Castle Rock, CO; grandchildren Tara (Ted) Cox of Wylie, TX, Tracey (Brett) Beattie of The Pinery, CO, Tami (Rob) Stobel of Aurora, CO, and Billy Richards of Castle Rock, CO; great-grandchildren Jamie Love, Sarah Beattie, Tylar Stobel, Joey Beattie, Kelsie Stobel, Jacob Beattie, and Alexandar Stobel; great-great-grandchildren Jace and Audrey; sisters Shirley Martin and Betty (Al) Reiber all of Scottsbluff and Patty (Richard) Donovan of Phoenix, AZ; several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents, wife Bertha, four brothers: Wilbert, Rueben, Marvin, and Jerry; and three sisters Joan Rein, Ruth Gross, and Helen Conrad.
