Esther A. Fehrenbach

Esther Fehrenbach, 90, of Scottsbluff died Saturday, December 18, 2010 at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., December 29, 2010 at The Village in Scottsbluff. There will also be a memorial service at a later date in Jetmore, Kansas. Cremation has taken place at Sunset Memorial Park Crematory in Scottsbluff. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Talking Books for the Blind in Kansas (State Library of Kansas, Kansas Talking Books; 1200 Commercial, Box 4055; Emporia, Kansas 66801) or Macular Degeneration Research (c/o American Health Assistance Foundation; 22512 Gateway Center Drive; Clarksburg, Maryland 20871). Esther was born February 16, 1920 in Hodgeman County, Kansas, to Roy and Hattie (Brumfield) Kellogg. She received her education in Hodgeman county and graduated from Hodgeman County High School. She married her husband, Paul A. Fehrenbach on February 16, 1941. To this union two daughters were born, Gerry M. and Nancy E. Esther and Paul farmed in Hodgeman County until his death in 1973. Esther loved reading, crocheting, and knitting. She volunteered for Talking Books and other organizations for many years. Macular Degeneration caused blindness, but she continued to knit blankets and caps for newborns at the hospital up until just a few months before her death. Esther loved their farm and the Kansas prairie. She wrote of her love in her poetry. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends — may she rest in peace. Survivors include her daughter, Nancy (Gary) Adams; son-in-law, Roger Young; four grandchildren, Shaun (Susan) Adams, Brad (Candis) Adams, Heather (Todd) Sutherland- Young, and Heath Young; four great-grandchildren, Spencer Adams, Seth Adams, Reed Adams, and Chloe Adams; one sister, Verona Diehl; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Paul; daughter, Gerry Young; four sisters; and one brother.
