Funeral services will be at Zion Evangelical at 10 a.m. on January 6, 2021 with Pastor Andy Griess officiating. Military honors will be provided by United States Air Force and American Legion Post #36 Honor Guard. Edward was born January 28, 1921 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, to Pete Hessler and Katherine (Gable) Hessler. He attended Victory Hill School and graduated from Victory Hill after the 8th grade. Ed farmed with his family until he joined the Army/Air Force 13th photo squadron in 1942, Ed was stationed in Mount Farm England, and was honorably discharged October 9, 1945, Ed served in World War II. When Ed returned home, he married Vera (Ott) Hessler on December 1, 1946 and they farmed until 1956. Ed worked at St. Mary's hospital, Scottsbluff Packing Plant, Heritage Health Care and Hessler Builders.
Ed would spend Sunday afternoon's going to the hospital and nursing homes visiting with people. In 1970 he worked with Sister Lucy & Sister Anna and was able to get a Gideon Bible in every room in St. Mary's. Ed was known for his collecting of antiques and attending auctions around the area.
Ed leaves his children David & Pam Hessler of Rapid City, SD, Robert & Peggy Hessler of Scottsbluff, Ne. He has 11 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren. Son-in - law Kevin Shoemaker, Arvada, Co and brother Leroy Hessler of Deming, New Mexico.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents Pete Hessler and Katherine Gable -Hessler, his beloved wife Vera (Ott) Hessler, Daughter Elizabeth Hessler-Shoemaker, Edward Lee Hessler, Michael Allen Hessler, brothers Manuel Hessler, Pete Hessler and Henry Hessler, sister Pauline Dillman, Rose Rein, Mary Smith.
