Donna Mae Hascall

Donna Mae Robertson Hascall went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 24, 2024 after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s. Memorial services will be held on Friday, December 27, 2024 at 10:30 am at the Notz Chapel at Camp Rock in Redington, with Rick Parker officiating. Burial will follow at the Redington Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, December 26 from 4-6 pm at Bridgeport Memorial Chapel.

Donna Mae (Robertson) Hascall was born on November 13, 1929, in Preston, Idaho, to Clifford and Florence Robertson. The family moved to the Wild Horse Community north of Bayard in 1930 to be closer to Donna’s grandparents. She attended W 58 School through 8th grade and graduated with honors from Bayard High School in 1947.

Donna’s dream of becoming a teacher started early with her sitting her younger siblings on chairs and holding school (even if they did not want to do so). She attended summer schools and took correspondence courses which allowed her to teach in rural schools for many years. She attended Chadron State College to finish the required classes to achieve a degree in 1978.

In 1950, Donna married the love of her life, Roger Hascall. When the Korean Conflict escalated, Roger enlisted in the United States Air Force, taking the couple to Texas, Michigan, and eventually overseas to Africa. During this time, Donna continued to teach in rural schools until Roger’s return.

The couple settled in Redington on the Hascall family farm, where they raised their three children. Donna’s Christian faith was a central part of her life, guiding her actions and decisions. She was actively involved in the Redington Community Church and served in many roles at Camp Rock.

Donna continued to teach for many years, retiring in 1992 from Bridgeport Elementary School, where she had taught second grade for 14 years. Donna and Roger enjoyed traveling to Texas each year for over 20 years.

She was well known for her cinnamon rolls, dinner rolls, flower garden, and artwork. Above all, Donna was known for her ability to see the best in others, always offering encouragement and support.

Donna is survived by her children: Steve Hascall (Karen) of Scottsbluff, Greg Hascall (Connie) of Bridgeport, and Paulette Schnell (Stan) of Scottsbluff; her sisters: Dorothy Monasmith of Bridgeport, Wanda Stevens of Reno, Nevada, and Pat Korell (Roger) of Bayard; her grandchildren: Stephanie Phipps (Josh) of Livingston, Texas, Jaime Whitmore (Luke) of Norman, Oklahoma, Desarae Hascall of Bayard, Aaron Hascall of Bayard, Joshua Schnell (Kirsten) of Fort Collins, CO, Ryan Schnell of Fort Collins, CO, Nicole Schnell of Alliance, and Sam McMullen, who was like a grandson to Donna. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren: Ashlyn Phipps (Lucas Jorgensen) of Denton, Texas, Abriana Miller (Christopher) of McPherson, Kansas, Harrison Phipps of Livingston, Texas, Steven Whitmore and Ella Whitmore of Norman, Oklahoma, and Emory Schnell of Fort Collins, Colorado, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Donna was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford and Florence Robertson; her beloved husband Roger Hascall; her brother Dwayne Robertson; her in-laws: Ruth and Glen Hascall; and brothers-in-law Rodney Hascall, Vern Hascall, Gene Hascall, Mark Monasmith, and Ed Stevens; and sisters-in-law Edyth Hascall, Janet Hascall, and Lois Hascall.

Donna will be remembered for her loving nature, unwavering faith, and dedication to family, friends, and students. She leaves a legacy of kindness, generosity, and love that will never be forgotten.
