

Dixie Linn Ramirez, 56, of Scottsbluff, died Wednesday, April 11, 2007, at Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland, Colorado. A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, April 16, at Christ the King Catholic Church in Gering with Frs. Gerald Harr, Reggie Urban and Dave Rykwalder officiating. Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery in Scottsbluff. A wake will be held at 5 p.m., Sunday, April 15 at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel and a rosary will be recited. Visitation will be Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the chapel. Dixie was born March 17, 1951 in Scottsbluff to Robert D. and Edna Ruth (Schuemaker) Dick. She grew up in Harrisburg and graduated from Banner County High School in 1969. She attended Chadron State College and the University of Wyoming from 1969 to 1973. She married her high school sweetheart, Joseph M. Ramirez, on August 12, 1972 at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Scottsbluff. The couple was blessed with four children: Brian Joseph, Kenda Leigh, Leslie Brooke, and Michael Jason.They lived in the Melbeta area until 1980 when they moved to Bridgeport. Dixie was active in various school and community organizations including P.E.O., Bridgeport Arts Council, and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She was an active member of All Souls Catholic Church and taught catechism for many years. She enjoyed participating in her children’s school functions including music, sports, and academic activities. Dixie lived with her family in Bridgeport for 22 years until they moved to Scottsbluff in May 2002.Dixie continued to be active in her community by participating in a monthly book club and P.E.O. Chapter HN, and by serving on the local Foster Care Review Board. She enjoyed working at Strong's Country Store and Bloomers Flower Shop. During the last several years, Dixie had cultivated a deep interest in naturopathic and holistic health. She had planned to attend a school specializing in oriental medicine as she always dreamed of incorporating herpassion and her work. Dixie loved reading, traveling, shopping, spending time outdoors, gardening, and visiting her children. Some of her favorite travels included Turkey, England, Guam, Canada, and Mexico. She was greatly anticipating the birth of her first grandchild due to be born to her daughter Kenda and son-in-law Ramy in August.Dixie had a genuine zest for life evident to anyone who knew her. She will be greatly missed by her husband Joe; son Dr. Brian Ramirez of Tucson, Arizona; daughter Dr. Kenda Ramirez and her husband Dr. Ramy Ayad of Jacksonville, Florida; daughter Leslie Ramirez, MSN/CNM of Nashville, Tennessee; son Michael Ramirez of Scottsbluff; mother Edna Ruth Dick of Harrisburg; sister Lou Ann Wineman and her husband Bill of Gering; sisters-in-law Mercedes Paz of Denver, Colorado; Phyllis Hernandez of Maui, Hawaii; Delores Popkins of San Diego, California; Marcella Vallejo-Fleck and husband Ron of Pasadena, California; 15 nieces and nephews; 27 great-nieces and great-nephews; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and many special friends. She was preceded in death by her father Robert D. Dick; mother-in-law Jobita Ramirez; father-in-law Manuel Ramirez; sister-in-law Virginia Bindschadler; and numerous extended family and special friends.
