William R. Webber, 76, of Scituate, Massachusetts passed away on May 19, 2023 surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of JoAnn M. (Zawtocki) Webber, with whom he shared 33 years of marriage, and the devoted father of Aubrey A. Webber.
Born in Shreveport, Louisiana, he was the son of the late Ralph and Archie (McCrery) Webber. As part of a military family he lived in many different places – Japan being one of his favorites. Bill received his Bachelor of Arts degree in literature from Eastern Nazarene College and his Master of Education degree in special education from Boston State College. While at ENC he was a two season athlete and played soccer and baseball – Bill never tired of talking about his college days. Bill spent his career as an English Teacher at Scituate High School and enjoyed being a mentor to his students, a class advisor and a soccer & baseball coach. There was rarely a time that he would walk through the harbor and not run into someone that he had taught – it always made him feel like a bit of a local celebrity. Bill retired from teaching after 35 years and always looked forward to sitting on his porch reading novels, gardening in his backyard, listening to his favorite music and most of all simply spending quality time with ‘his girls’ whom he adored.
In addition to his parents, Bill was predeceased by his two younger brothers Paul and John and is survived by his older brother Alan. Bill always considered his brothers his best friends and he loved them dearly.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 25, 2023 from 4-7 PM at Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Road, Scituate. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, May 26, 2023 at 10:00 AM at St. Mary of the Nativity, 1 Kent Street, Scituate Harbor.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Bill’s memory can be made to Scituate Etrusco Associates located at 1 Common Street, Scituate, Massachusetts, 02066. Bill enjoyed volunteering here and we are so grateful for their help when it was needed.
