William E. Conroy – 83, of Scituate formerly of Duxbury passed away on the evening of April 24, 2017 at the South Shore Hospital following a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of 63 years to Elizabeth (MacDonald) Conroy.
Devoted father of Gregory Conroy and his wife Ewa of Jamaica Plain, Cheryl Smith of Scituate and Doug Conroy and his wife Heather of Cohasset. Cherished Papa of Courtney and Christopher Smith, Brooke and Sarah Conroy. He was recently eagerly anticipating the arrival of a great grandson, Cameron, who will make his entrance into the world within a few days of William’s passing.
Mr. Conroy served for several years in the US Air Force and went on to graduate from Boston University. He and his family resided in New York for 15 years during his employment at Mutual of New York. They then moved to Duxbury where they raised their children. He retired as the Executive Vice President of Administration for Boston Mutual Life.
He enjoyed much success in his professional life, but was happiest when he was at home working around the yard, preparing his pool each year for his grandchildren to enjoy and playing piano. He was a family man in every sense of the word and his wife, children and especially his grandchildren brought him such joy in his life. He loved nothing more than attending his grandchildren’s various sporting events and bring involved in their lives. He was a longtime member of St. Anthony’s Parish and loved watching BU Hockey.
A visitation will take place on Friday, April 28, 2017 from 9:00 to 10:45 A.M. at the Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Road, Scituate. Relatives and friends will then process to a funeral Mass at 11 AM at St. Mary of the Nativity Church, 1 Kent Street. Interment to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
