GIBSON, Walter George, Jr. “Bud” – 76, of Scituate passed away on the morning of November 15, 2021 at home. He was the beloved husband of Barbara P. (Pickard) Gibson, with whom he shared 37 years of marriage.
Born in Pittsburgh, PA and raised in Philadelphia since the age of 10, he was the son of the late Walter G. and Irene B. (Barr) Gibson. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia and went on to enjoy a lengthy career as a McDonald’s franchisee in both Richmond, VA and West Roxbury, MA. He was instrumental in the establishment of the Ronald McDonald House in Richmond, Virginia in 1980. Later in life, he has owned and operated the Norwell Executive Center
Over the years, Bud and Barbara traveled extensively to Europe and Asia. He especially appreciated his trips to Hong Kong, which was his favorite city. He was a valued member of the Hatherly Country Club for more than 25 years and was an avid golfer: twice awarded the Tobin trophy for his annual outstanding performance in the game.
He was the devoted father of Brendan Gibson of Quincy and Ryan Gibson of Tucson, AZ and the loving stepfather of Anthony Portnof of Marblehead.
Cherished grandfather of William Portnof of Oakland, CA and Daniel Portnof of Philadelphia, PA.
Loving brother of Suzanne Hessian of Richmond, VA and Patricia Lotto of Bethesda, MD.
Memorial celebration of Bud's life to take place at a later date.
