She leaves behind her husband of 44 years, Richard; Her children Maria Stewart, Joey and Greg Polito, Marc Stella and Erica Toler; Sisters Roberta Reeves, Laurel Gholson, Kimberley Keyes-Anderson, and Kristian Keyes; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Susan loved the Bahamas, where she vacationed every November with her husband Richard for over 30 years. Eventually becoming a family tradition thanks to her father, Everett Keyes. Monday night dinners and dancing to the Bohemian music always made Susan smile. Over the years, West Wind II became her home away from home. She treasured the lifelong friendships she made with those who lived and vacationed there.
Susan cherished days on the boat and hosting friends and family aboard the “Junkanoo”. She always had plenty of snacks and beverages for whoever may pop in. She was exceptional at making sure everyone had what they needed. She looked forward to her 5pm dinghy cocktail cruises through the harbor, admiring the boats and giving a warm smile to everyone she passed by.
Susan adored traveling with Richard, her best companion. Some of her favorite trips included traveling to Italy, driving down the East Coast to Florida, flying to Arizona to visit her sister, Laurel, and driving across country last year. Their long road trip entailed making planned pitstops with friends and family, and spontaneous stops when they saw an opportunity to try something new. Every time she arrived home, she was eager to share the adventures through pictures on her tablet.
She was a Scituate sports super fan. Whether or not her grandchildren were playing or coaching, Susan was in the stands wearing her blue and white cheering. One time, she left her vacation, traveled by plane and three hours in a car to be there in support. She would wait for the team to exit the field after each game to say, “good going” and praise their efforts. She never let hard work go unnoticed.
Susan was a ray of sunshine to everyone who knew her. She led by example for how this life should be lived- with relentless courage, an unwavering sense of humor, and a fabulous fashion sense. She laughed until she cried, and if you were crying, she was the first to make you laugh. She had a special way of making everyone around her feel cared for and heard. She will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be held on Friday June 7th, 2024 from 3pm-7pm at Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Rd, Scituate, Massachusetts. Susan asks that in lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity.
